Thanks for coming by. I'm Marcus, founder and lead writer here at 66.1. I started this newsletter in July 2023 because I wanted to help. I was tired of seeing friends and family fall victim to yet another preventable chronic disease.
Having worked at the Mayo Clinic for a few years at this point, I had seen firsthand the tragedies that result when one neglects lifestyle factors and relies on prescriptions and intervention-based modern medicine. Diabetic amputations, weight-loss surgeries, and dramatic cardiac interventions were a few of the examples of preventable, yet somehow necessary interventions I witnessed.
At this point, I still thought I wanted to become a doctor. I went through the entire medical school interview process, only to realize that what I was trying to do wasn't what a doctor does in modern medicine. If I continued on my path, I would face a painful moment 7+ years down the road when I was equipped with my M.D. degree and still wasn't able to help in the ways I wished to.
So I stopped. I decided medical school wasn't for me. And I started writing. Because I want to help you get healthy and stay healthy before you end up in your doctor's office, dependent on a cocktail of Ozempic, Lipitor, and Ativan to feel "normal". We're here to build health the old-fashioned way, through exercise, nutrition, sleep, and cultivating great relationships.
If that sounds like it's for you, I encourage you to enter your best email in the form below to make sure you don't miss out on the next newsletter, coming your way this week.
And if you're wondering, "Why 66.1 ('sixty-six point one')?", it's because 66.1 is the average health span of an adult in the US at the time this newsletter started publishing. And we're here to extend that.
